The title of Nunan's book "Introducing discourse analysis" suggests that the book gives the reader the basic concepts about dicourse analysis such as "what is discourse analysis?" and the "linguistic elements in discourse".It is crystal(redundant) clear from both the cover page and the preface in which the author identifies his main target, which is introducing the main concepts of discourse analysis (incomplete sentence). It is remarkable (did the author mention that? or is it your view? Do not use such exaggerated judgments) that though the book is about certain field in the area of linguistics, its reading does not require much background information as discourse analysis terms are introduced in a way that makes it easy for the lay reader to grasp them.In fact,Nunan organizes the topics in his book in a logical sequence. He divides his book into three parts. The first part is the exposition through which the content is presented. In other words,The author provides the reader with the concept under question then he goes on explaining the term according to his own understanding. In this part, for instance,he starts by asking “what is discourse analysis?”,the answer for this question is provided through the author’s exposition and comparisons among(between 'is fine here') different extracts (you mean approaches?).Then,he sums up the whole idea providing his own definition of the term. The second part functions as the practical part of the book which enhances the theoretical part and makes it easy for the reader to understand the terms of discourse analysis presented through examples from real life.As for the third part,it is meant to provide the reader with further practice to show to what extent he has comprehended new terms and guidelines of discourse analysis.
Good work Omnia.
