The title of Nunan's book "Introducing discourse analysis" suggests that the book gives the reader the basic concepts about dicourse analysis such as "what is discourse analysis?" and the "linguistic elements in discourse". It is clear from Nunan's preface that his purpose behind writing the book is to introduce the reader (Did the author mention a specific target reader? Does reading the book require any background in linguistics..etc?) to some of the main principles in the field and to provide him with "an opportunity of exploring these concepts in use". In fact,Nunan organizes the topics in a logical sequence. He divides his book into three parts. The first part is the exposition through which the content is presented. The second one contains samples of written and spoken language. As for the third part,it includes activites to help the reader to study discourse and discourse analysis in relation to their own working practices. (You need to be more specific in introducing the author's ideas. It would be helpful to always give examples whenever possible.)
