The information used in Language and gender is very accurate since the writer uses two methods in supporting his ideas. Firstly, he depends on studies and researches made by other linguists. For example, in Unit two, the writer used a recent study of collocations by Herriman to support that “via language we clearly construct the sexes as separate and possessing different characteristics.” “one recent study of collocations for the term ‘man’ and ‘woman’ (Herriman, 1998) based on the cobuild corpus (a collection of language texts of all kinds, totaling 50 million words) found that words with physical attractiveness (pretty, sexy, glamorous) collocated most frequently with ‘woman’, while terms to describe height, abilities and personality most frequently collocated with ‘man’. Secondly, the writer gives many examples and activities that support his information(find a more accurate word) such as extracts from newspapers and advertisements. Such methods not only give accuracy to the information, but also clarify the writer’s concepts. By giving more than one point of view and more than one example, the reader finds it easier in understanding and at the same time covers all the aspects of the subject.
Good. Just find an alternative to the word 'information'.
