The title of Angela Goddard and Lidnsey Mean Patterson's book,"Language and gender" is very suggestive. It shows the relation between language and gender and how language is affected by gender. It also shows that language used by males differs from that used by females. Thus language is affected by society and individual's backgrounds. - (Through the preface of the book, it is clear) it is clear from the preface that Language and gender is a book "aimed at A-level and beginning undergraduate students." It helps them in exploring the relationship between language, men and women. It also offers them a practical expeience of textal analysis focused on language and gender. - Finally, the table of content contains the main ideas of the book. The book is divided into six unites. Each unit discusses a new idea. Though each idea does not lead to the other, they all fall under the same subject which is the relation between language and gender. For example, the first unit is titled "projections". It shows how people use language to project gender and humanness onto the inanimate world. Yet the second unit " making up gender" talks about the qualities and attributes expected in men and women and how they are circulated via language and images.
